Relief Printmaking

with Simon Jensen

Angel of Love. Henri Matisse

Saturday, February 15, 2020

10am - 3:30pm

$65.00

Relief printmaking began in China when artists rubbed ink over a design carved into wood. The raised surface was then printed onto paper or cloth. It is believed that Marco Polo brought the idea to Europe, where it was used in the printing of religious images, maps and books. Block printing is a modern form of relief printing, with countless applications today. With the proper tools the skill is easily learned, and will be taught in a one-day session.

During the class you will learn how to create designs, transfer them to the block, ink and print a series of your own making in basic black and white

Multi-coloured printing will also be demonstrated, and you will be given the opportunity to create your own, time permitting.

The instructor is local artist and teacher Simon Jensen, who combines thirty years of teaching with many more years as a practicing artist. You can see his work here.
