The ability to draw is not a “gift” but a learned skill, though like any skill it requires practise. This four week course provides you with a variety of approaches to drawing, as well as an introduction to colour theory and the use of the sketchbook as a tool in creativity. It is intended to give students of art confidence in their ability to see, record and design for themselves.

*Course details and materials list below. Students are responsible for providing their own materials.

ABSTRACTION

4-week class: Tuesdays,

Feb 18, 25 and Mar 3, 10, 2020

1pm - 3:30pm

$100.00

Join us for an introduction to the originators of abstraction, an art form both revolutionary and liberating, and still practised more than a century after its appearance. We will look at the works of Picasso, Braque, Mondrian, Malevich, Klee and Kandinsky, and explore how and why they worked.

We will also create sketches and finished works of our own, using a variety of media, in monochrome and colour. Emphasis will be placed on the principles of good design, composition and basic colour theory.

*Course details and materials list below. Students are responsible for providing their own materials.

A local artist and former school teacher, Simon Jensen has instructed young artists for over 30 years on the use and importance of the sketchbook, as the artist's main tool.  His own work is included in private and corporate collections, the largest which is in the Mississauga Public Library's Permanent Collection. You can see his work here.

"I loved these classes. Simon is very generous not only with his knowledge but also with the materials he brings to class." — D.

"Made me feel relaxed about creating."

"Very thankful for the push to think more creatively."
